Smock family Easter

Smock family Easter

The egg-hungers scuttled out of the thickening drizzle for an infusion of tea and treats. The Smock family crest on the bone China was obscured by the panoply of desserts displayed on the long sideboard.

After 15 years absence Lady Smock’s estranged uncle George surprised the clan by showing up.  Why had the old bugger exiled himself? No one remembered and the circulating rumours were pooh-poohed.

Tongues buzzed. Cups clattered. Tea gulped.

Later, after shirts were untucked, skirts unbuttoned, belts loosened, and sugar torpor sheathed the room, Harry noticed George wasn’t in the wing chair chatting with sweet cousin Blanche anymore.
