Smart objectives

Earnestly we discuss
the ladder of success.
I recall a tacky joke
about a guy named Happy Cess
who waits for Ernie
at the top. How
importunately Ernie
belabours each step up,
sucked up by Cess,
he dresses up no less.

Annually I am impelled to
take this vital step but
the importance of not being
Ernie compels me to resist
the siren call of Cess
and here alas I am forever hung
precarious on the bottom rung.
