People’s lives, in Jubilee as elsewhere, were dull, simple, amazing and unfathomable – deep caves paved with kitchen linoleum.
Alice Munro – Lives of Girls and Women
One of the reasons I love blogging is for the chance to peek in the windows of other people’s lives and so this Alice Munro quote seems apt in the context of the blogosphere. During Just Jot It January I met some new people writing on WordPress and would like to introduce you to them. Maybe you’ll enjoy looking through their curtains, too.
First, the hostess of JusJoJan, Linda Gill. She writes about her family, colouring, and posts witty, sharp imaginative stories all told in dialogue. Brilliant.
I don’t know if I met V.J. Knutson through the Jotathon but I like her poetry and maybe you will, too. She lives in Iowa where my grandma was born and bred.
At Notes Tied on the Sagebrush, Deborah Drucker writes about life. My favourite subject.
An anonymous blogger who writes from Japan at Water flowing, flower floating is an expert tatter and she writes gorgeous, introspective posts.
Then there are my ol’ favourites and you may already know them because they are great connectors:
Pauline King – The Contented Crafter – is a human light catcher
Luanne Castle, the kind, cat-loving poet at Writer Site
Joey Mottern at Joeyfullystated writes in an enviable casual voice about her family, life, and sometimes anxiety.
and Derrick Knight, the king of the quotidian.
I’ve missed so many others who are part of my weekly routine, those who visit my linoleum paved cave and who are now part of life woven here on the world wide web.
I’m done blogging for a while. To those of you who blog every day, I stand in awe.
See you in the kitchen soon.
– Susanne
I love the peek into other people’s lives too Susanne and I’ll be sure to visit some of these.

Thanks for the shout-out, I am honored to visit your linoleum cave.
I have such unforgiving porcelain tile.
I will be a better writer when I have linoleum. I don’t know why, I just know it.

Thank you so much for introducing my site, Susanne – I am very humbled to make the list, but I must say, you highly overrate me! Your words are always too kind, I rush to hide behind my curtain… only to realize I raise it every night so I really have nowhere to hide. It may well be that all I’m really doing on most days is just scurrying about like a squirrel with a mouthful of nutty thoughts, you know 🐿

Those are some darn good blogs you’ve singled out! I hope your well-deserved break revives you after all the writing you’ve done, and that you come back soon!

Oh I likely won’t be gone for more than two weeks. I love blogging!

Oh goodie, what are we making?
I don’t know so many mentioned! Actually, I only know Joey. And I follow so many blogs already. Ahh, sweet blogging trouble!
You come back here soon, okay? Please?

Won’t be long, M. I’ll still be visiting, just not inviting anyone into my kitchen for a few weeks!

Great job, Susanne! I don’t know how some bloggers do it…posting every day. I can barely squeeze out two a month lately. Ah well…looking forward to your next post. Enjoy the break 🙂

Gonna read a book, maybe two, and write a story, maybe two. I’ve also got a strong hankering to knit.

Writing a blog post every day is hard work. There’s just no way to sugarcoat it. Add in the responses to comments, and visiting other blogs, it becomes more than a full time job.
Kudos to you and all those who participated in this January madness. Well done!!

I found what happened was I had very little time to read other blogs because I HAD to get my own post done and for me the fun of blogging isn’t just putting my thoughts out there, its reading about other people too.
Even though I like winter, I find January long and dark and it was great to have something to focus on at night rather than going straight to bed after dinner!

I’ve done the April A to Z Challenge 3 years in a row, and at the end of each one, I was toasted. I don’t know how daily bloggers do it … or worse, posting 2-3 times a day! I don’t have that kind of stamina.

What does “I’m done blogging for a while.” mean?

I’m not sure, Leslie. Just taking a wee break from posting every day. I’ll resume my more regular irregular posting of 2-4 times a month but first a breather.

It was a pleasure reading your blogs everyday Susanne, amazing really. I don’t know how you can come up with so much material it just seems to gush out of you. I think you must work well under pressure n’est pas?? Looking forward to more!!

Its pretty clear that I like a deadline, that’s for sure. One of the things that makes me good at my job is that I’m “task-oriented” and this blogging every day became a daily “to do” thing. It proved that while it may be wonderful to write when inspired, the truth is – at least for me – inspiration had very little to do with my output. It was deciding to do it and then doing it.

I did a ‘write a blog every day for 30 days” challenge (I think it was 30 days, can’t remember for sure but it was a long long time) once. It was hard and easy all at the same time. But I felt like some things that I wanted to keep up for a longer period of time then one day got lost in the shuffle. Some stuff needs and deserves a longer perusal. Congratulations on meeting your goal, take a rest,, but don’t be done too long, we’d miss you!

What I liked about blogging every day was the routine of it. I had a set time (1 hour) from 7-8 at night then another 30 minutes to post and fine-tune. I spent another 1/2 hour reading as many other blogs as I could and then I stopped. There’s a lot to be said about making a schedule and then sticking to it.

Susanne, I have been travelling since 18th and in the last week have slipped miserably in terms of reading and commenting on blogs let alone writing my own (if you are in awe, I am entirely prostrate with respect at those that blog daily), so I have some catching up to do now that I am settled ish. I will certainly sneak peeks at the bloggers you so eloquently recommend and I will catch up on the last installments of your quotidien January. All I really know is that you are a gifted writer and it is a joy whenever you do share your work. Long may you ride (however regularly or sporadically you feel so inclined) 😊

I hope you had lovely, rejuvenating travels, Osyth. I’m officially done daily blogging. I enjoyed the challenge but hoo boy, it was a slog toward the last few days. Take your time. The posts aren’t going anywhere and neither am I. I’m officially a blog addict as much for the joy of writing as for the pleasure of reading other people’s work.

My goodness Susanne, that was a surprise to finish visiting all your fellow jotters and then run into myself and the rest of the team 😀 That’s a lovely shout out to part of your community. I’m honoured to be included and am no end delighted with this wonderful sub title you have given me 🙂 I also like Derrick’s by-line – most apt!
I have to email you about something relatively unimportant too, but will do it tomorrow as I’m about to wend my way to bed tight now ……

I love that phrase “…the rest of the team.” We do kind of travel in a pack like a team, don’t we?
I shall check my email forthwith!
